Durga (Chandi) Saptasati Book, 5th edition In ritualistic literature of Sanatana Dharma, the book “Durga (Chandi) Saptasati” tops the list and highly adored and chanted by millions of devotees, as part of sacrifice and penance. It is part of Markandeya Purana, with 587 slokas (stanzas)split into 700 holy verses.

The book is mainly in praise of Supreme Goddess Durga (Chandi), whose manifestations in three forms, viz., Maha Kali, Maha Lakshmi and Maha Saraswati, are described with respect to annihilation of demons, and blessings and boons to devotees on compassionate grounds. There are several yajnas, which invoke the powers of various deities. However, the yajna performed in the name of Supreme Goddess Durga (Chandi), in accordance with the book “Durga Saptasati”, is said to be supreme among all such.
